The Real Super Man

OUR SUPER SAVIOR
If any human would qualify to be a bona fide ''super man,'' surely it would be Jesus Christ. Think about it. Although He walked upon the earth, He was not from the earth. Said He in John 8:23, ''...Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.'' He had otherworldly origins. He arrived on this sin-stained planet from a glorious kingdom far, far away. As He declared to Pilate, His kingdom was ''not of this world.'' (John 18:36)
The Nazarene wasn't merely born like other earthlings; He was ''manifested'' (1 John 3:8). Yes He was born, but not through human agency. He was supernaturally conceived when the time came for His appearance in this world (Luke 1:35). The Son of God became the Son of man, laying aside His heavenly glory and taking upon Himself ''the form of a servant'' (Philippians 2:7-8).
He wore a cloak instead of a cape. According to John 19:23, His ''coat'' was seamless. The miracle-working power of His super ministry was absorbed into this clothing. A hopelessly hemorrhaging woman received healing by merely touching His garment (Mark 5:25-34). That was real super power! It saved the day - and ultimately the life - of the sick woman.
He exercised superhuman mastery over natural laws, earthly problems, demonic forces and even death. Eyewitnesses were left wide-eyed and open-mouthed in the wake of His heavenly heroics. Even His disciples were stricken with awe at the demonstrations of divine dominion. ''What manner of man is this,'' exclaimed the Master's sidekicks following His epic vanquishing of the raging elements. ''...What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?'' (Mark 4:41)
The laws of physics lost their relevance in Christ's super presence. Water became wine. Feet of flesh walked upon the sea as if it were solid ground. Physical matter was transcended as He passed through a murderous crowd and through solid walls (see Luke 4:28-30; John 20:26). What manner of man indeed! What manner of man is this, that even natural laws no longer applied?
Every superhero has a villain, a nemesis, an archenemy. So did the Holy Hero of our souls. Jesus wrestled not against flesh and blood, but against the epitome of Evil - the diabolical spirit entity known as the devil, Satan, the prince of darkness. He didn't raise His anointed hands and call on God to rescue Him from the spiritual battlefield. Instead, He answered the fiendish provocation by unsheathing ''the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God'' (Ephesians 6:17). He quoted specific Super Scriptures. He overcame Satan's salvos by declaring what is written in God's Word (see Matthew 4:1-11). The Tempter could not withstand the divinely dynamic force of the Scriptures firing from the Lord's lips. This same super power is available to us.
