The Hopeless Cure

In the dark I sit
Wanting to quit.
Light? Not a bit.

Depressed I am
Oppressed and bound
Stress all around.

How long must I suffer?
How long can I smother?
Where are the others?

Then upon the hurtin'
A beam slips through the curtain --
From doubt become I certain.

My pain is changed.
The fear disappears.

No more bleak.
No more weak.

Sorrow is diminished.
Maybe I'm not finished.
Tomorrow is replenished.

Rays of hope enter me.
A surge of positive energy
Rises up within me.

Rather than the ending
Perhaps a new beginning?
A glimmer, a hinting.

What is this light
Urging me to fight?

It's a hopeful thought
My spirit has wrought.

This cure for my desperation?

BugaBOO!

Do you remember that time
When it felt like bugs
Were crawling up your spine?

Or what about when
You felt that tingling
All over your skin?

In the quiet of the night
You heard a bump and a thump
Then you felt those goosebumps?

Perhaps it's time to rethink ghosts --
Maybe life in the After
Is more diverse than we suppose.

If we could take a closer look
At the entities that do spook --
If we could inspect and dissect,
Would we detect spooky insects?

Before you roll your eyes and say "Hush!"
Consider what might happen to that bug
That just got stepped on and crushed.

What if every creepy crawler
That gets squashed and squished
Like people continues to exist?

Then imagine all that crawls
On the other side --
Every bug and parasite
That has ever lived then died.

Might this be the deal
Behind the feelings you feel --
Goosebumps and goose pimples
When fear gives your flesh a chill?

It could be a ghost-bug crawling on you.
But don't worry --
Bugs don't say "BOO!"

MindFreq'd

Every part of me,
All that will ever be
Vibrates upon the
Waves of Frequency.

Much more than a theory
It's everything, you see --
Creating all of Reality,
This law of Frequency.

Frequency higher:
Personal power.

Frequency lower:
Progress slower.

Free, you see,
By Frequency.

Gradually,
Eventually,
The release
Of potentiality
By increase
Of Frequency.

The dream evades me
(I have come to see)
For I haven't reached
A higher degree
Of this Frequency.

Suffer I needlessly
By the delinquency
Of a weak Frequency.

From emergency
Emerge I to see,
Emerge I to be
The sum totality
Of my Frequency.

Vis-a-vis
I will be
The Me I see
Mentally, you see.

Friends will see
(And enemies)
The increase
Of my Frequency.

I see me free
By my Frequency.

When it hurts,
Amp the hertz.

When it's dire,
Crank the power.

When bedeviled,
Raise the level.

No matter what,
Increase the watts.

Think "it" frequently,
Set the frequency.

Traffic in the Attic!

Hi there, my name is Alex.
This will sound dramatic
But I hear the havoc of traffic
Right up there in the attic.

I know it sounds sorta insane
(I will do my best to explain)
But over my head above
There's the chug-a-chug-chug
Of a busy choo-choo train.

I feel the rumbling of a big truck.
Now the arrival of a jumbo jet --
Just my luck!

I hear brakes slam in a traffic jam
While I chow down on my toast and jam.

I'm in the mood for some candy corn --
Not in the mood for those honking horns.

Those folks up there are in a rush
But I just wish they would hush!

Any other time
It would be just fine.
But I've got kid stuff
Right now on my mind.

The noisy vibration of lunch hour
Is messin' with my Lego tower.

They've got places to go,
People to see.
But I've got games to play,
Characters to be.

When I grow up,
It will be fantastic --
Then I will be free
From any traffic.

Right?

Caster the Furniture Ghost

Once upon a time
In a house that's suburban,
A family of four endures
Events quite disturbin'.

While everyone is sleeping,
A mysterious force is creeping.

I know it will sound surprising
And even super duper strange
But following the sun's rising,
All in the house is rearranged.

Nothing is where it should be --
They wonder what this could be.

Something very weird is afoot --
The furniture won't stay put.

Then the youngest has an idea so bright:
Set up a camera throughout the night.

So while ZZZs are caught and logs sawed,
During a great deal of snoring,
Activity on the cam is caught
That will be anything but boring.
It might clear up a lot,
Then again...maybe not.
But there'll be no ignoring.

While reviewing footage the next day,
Looks of shock and dismay on each face.
Not much that anyone could say
Except "Look at that!" and "No way!".

The couch slides across the floor
And stops right beside the door.

There goes the television stand --
Pushed by an invisible hand.

"Wait," says the mom, "did you guys see that?"
Right before the screen goes to black
A ghostly figure enters the frame,
Wearing coveralls and a red hat.

The creepy cameo sparks remembrance
Of a tragic tale that's often told
About a moving man that passed away
In that very house decades ago.

The poor guy was busy at work
When his mortal time ran out.
He didn't get to finish his work --
Might that be what all this is about?

To the family it's really spooky
But maybe he feels it's eternal duty?

Since there's no real ghost-zapping blaster,
They have decided to just live with it --
The kids call the apparition Caster.

No Prob Bob

Let me tell you 'bout a guy named Robert
Who never seems to ever be bothered.

He came to be called
No Prob Bob by all.

You got ninety-nine problems?
Well Bob's got none.
Whatever the weather
(Whether rain or sun)
Always Bob has fun.

For Bob the time came
When it became plain
That labels and names
Caused much of the pain
And much of the same --
So he made it a game
To rename 'bad' things.

It happened upon a day
That No Prob Bob said "hey"
To this fella -- No Way Jay.

As they chatted
It became clear
That No Way Jay
Had not much cheer.

This No Way Jay
He earned his tag
By throwing in the towel
At the drop of a hat.

The least lil' trouble
Would pop his bubble.

Too cool or too hot?
His whole day was shot.

A few hairs out of place
Put a frown on his face.

He would purse his lips
If the bacon wasn't crisp.

One minute of the news
And he would blow a fuse.

Ev'ry thing seemed impossible,
All goals out of reach
Until No Prob Bob
That day to Jay did teach:

"It's only a problem if I say,"
Said No Prob Bob to No Way Jay.

"That big wall in front of me,
Whether I get around it
Depends to a big extent
On the frame I put 'round it."

No Prob Bob paused for effect --
No Way Jay didn't get it yet.

"It's in my power to name it,
It's in my hand to reframe it."

No Way Jay rubbed his chin
Trying to take all this in.

"I accept it and I own it
By the language I put on it."

"But what about the things we can't do?,"
Asked No Way Jay looking quite confused.

To which No Prob Bob replied
With a twinkle in each eye:

"Switch the label,
Become able."

For the first time in a while,
No Way Jay began to smile.

There's more that needed to be said,
So No Prob Bob forged ahead:

"What mistake?
'Tis only a retake.

Is it defeat?
That's up to me.

My blunder becomes my thunder,
The blooper becomes super.
It turns into my greatest blessing
For I call it positive lesson.

There is no failure, my friend --
Only chances to begin again.

Any given day
Is whatever you say.

Any given thing
Is whatever you think.

It is what it is?
It is what you think it is.

Is it the end
Or an opportunity to win?
We have the power to spin.

If you look beyond the grief,
The fussing and the venting,
Then you'll be able to see
That 'problem' is just a word
That humans have invented.
Follow this path of thinking
And you'll end up transcendent."

Jay must have got schooled
'Cuz after Bob was through,
We hear from Jay a new 'tude:
"So the language I use
And the words I choose
Decide whether I
Will win or will lose!"

No Prob Bob nodded and grinned
Since he got through to his friend.

"It's only a problem if I say,"
Like No Prob Bob says Yes Way Jay
Who now, like Bob, always sees the way.

Face of the Earth

Here's a question of worth:
What might be expressed
On the face of the Earth?

What if the waves of the ocean
Fluctuated with emotion --
Isn't this a solid notion?

Would your city or town cause a frown?
Would a beaming smile stretch for miles?
Or a look of distress from all the unrest?
Considering the stress from East to West,
Can we expect her to be expressionless?

Would her eyes show a twinkle
Or would her brows be wrinkled?

Might the toil of human work
Provoke a bemused smirk?

Would she laugh at our many gaffes
Or giggle at the fickle social drivel?

How would she react to the anger and dangers
Or the niceness and kindness of total strangers?

Can we imagine reserved silence
In the face of daily violence?

Would lips of land quiver,
Tears flow into rivers
At the hate in this place
If our world had a face?

A face can speak volumes
Without saying a word --
Might this also hold true
For the face of this place Earth?

Sparkness

How can I win
If I don't begin?

Why sit I here in the dark
Without the flash of the spark?

The start is the spark,
The step is my help.

It's smart to start,
It's art to start.

What's missin' from wishin'?
The start-spark of ignition --
It must become my mission.

The rockets that slice through our skies,
They had to be launched --
That's how they rise.

I am a rocket,
Are all systems go?
That's how I'll rock it
Straight to my goal.

Momentum will carry me,
Inertia will bury me.

It might be a dud,
I could crash with a thud
But what if it's a bud --
The start of something fresh,
The blooming of real progress?

Feet in place can never win the race.
It makes no sense to never commence.

The goal is what I'm wanting,
The journey can be daunting
But it's only at the beginning
Where I initiate the winning.

Focus On The Right Number

Too often we get hung up on that depressing number we see displayed on the bathroom scale. It's like a neon sign reminding us of how far we are from our goal weight.

The solution is to shift our focus from that number to another, more positive number: the number we will see on that glorious day when we have reached our desired weight. Focus on that future number.

THE POWER OF F.O.C.U.S

A good way to think about the power and meaning of focus is to convert the word itself into an acronym. What is focus? It is the (f)aculty (o)f (c)reating (u)nder (s)tress.

There is very real stress attached to your present weight - especially when it is so far from where you want to be. Nevertheless, you can successfully create positive results - despite the stress - by focusing on your goal weight. Focus is a faculty, and a powerful one at that. Use it.

Keep in mind that the number you see right now is only temporary. It will change, it will go down, as you take each step toward your health and fitness goal.

A simple way to get your focus in a better place is to write down the number of your goal weight. Mentally project yourself to the future date when you have won your personal battle of the bulge. When you step on the scale on that future date and a big smile comes across your face, what do you see when you look down? The answer is your goal weight. Write that number down and focus on it.

There are two ways to "cash in" this particular Slim Gem. You can either write it down every day or you can write it once and post it in a place where you will see it often. Why not stick it on your bathroom scale (or at least near your bathroom scale)? This simple idea will help you focus on the positive goal in your future rather than getting stuck in the frustration of your present weight.

"Super Scriptures"?

WHY SCRIPTURE IS ''SUPER''

» 2 Timothy 3:16
(AMP)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration]...

» 2 Peter 1:20-21
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

The Bible is the inspired Word of the living God. It is not the work of mortal men. The ''holy men of God'' whose names headline the individual books therein were simply conduits for the Holy Ghost to speak divine information. Even as God breathed into Adam the breath of life, so He has breathed Life into the Holy Scriptures. Every nook and cranny of the Bible is packed with the awesome power of the Almighty. This fact alone makes it a super book - the Super Book, in fact.

At the same time, there are certain scriptures which have a greater effect on us than others. Right? It is very common to have a ''favorite'' verse or passage. For example, one of my all-time favorite scriptures for a long time has been Jeremiah 29:11 -

''For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'' (New International Version)

To have a favorite scripture doesn't mean we reject the rest of the Bible. It simply means that a particular verse or group of verses strike a spiritual chord with us. Many times God will ''quicken'' a specific scripture to us for the purpose of meeting the demands of a situation. There are certain scriptures which offer greater relevance to us in particular places and times in our lives than others. These become our Super Scriptures.

When the devil attacked Jesus with specific temptations, our Super Savior responded by quoting three relevant scriptures - each one corresponding to the need of the moment (Luke 4:1-13). Consider this: you are more likely to derive practical benefit from 1 Peter 5:7 than 1 Chronicles 5:7. I encourage you to look them up and compare them. One will show you how to overcome worry, and the other one...not so much. This isn't to diminish one, nor to accept one over the other. They are both inspired by the Holy Spirit. They are both included in the Bible for a reason. But certain scriptures pack a greater punch in certain situations.

The Grace Greeting

Consider this: if you could somehow receive an e-mail from Paul, Peter or any of the other original apostles, how would it start? What greeting would they use to begin the correspondence?

The majority of the ''books'' comprising the New Testament weren't originally written as books at all (at least in the way that we think about books). Instead, they were composed to be letters written to individual churches of the day. In biblical parlance, they are epistles. An epistle is a letter.

Word Study: The word "epistle" comes from a Greek word meaning "send news."

Thus, we are able to answer the hypothetical scenario posited above by looking at the way those letters were begun - by looking at the specific greetings which were used. It is a worthy analysis because it can provide an important spiritual glimpse into the thinking of the first-century Christian mind.

THE EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE ROMANS:
''To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: 'GRACE TO YOU and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.' "  ~1:7 (emphasis mine)~

THE FIRST EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE CORINTHIANS:
''Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.''  ~1:3~

THE SECOND EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE CORINTHIANS:
''Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.''  ~1:2~

THE EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE GALATIANS:
''Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ...''  ~1:3~

THE EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE EPHESIANS:
''Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.''  ~1:2~

THE EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE PHILIPPIANS:
''Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.''  ~1:2~

THE EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE COLOSSIANS:
''To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: 'GRACE BE UNTO YOU, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.' " ~1:2 (emphasis mine)~

THE FIRST EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE THESSALONIANS:
''Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: 'GRACE BE UNTO YOU, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.' "  ~1:1 (emphasis mine)~

THE SECOND EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE THESSALONIANS:
''Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.''  ~1:2~

THE FIRST EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO TIMOTHY:
''Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: 'GRACE, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.' "  ~1:2 (emphasis mine)~

THE SECOND EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO TIMOTHY:
''To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: 'GRACE, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.' " ~1:2 (emphasis mine)~

THE EPISTLE OF PAUL TO TITUS:
''To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: 'GRACE, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.' " ~1:4 (emphasis mine)~

THE EPISTLE OF PAUL TO PHILEMON:
''Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.''  ~3~

THE FIRST EPISTLE GENERAL OF PETER:
''Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: 'GRACE UNTO YOU, and peace, be multiplied.' "  ~1:2 (emphasis mine)~

THE SECOND EPISTLE GENERAL OF PETER:
''Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord...''  ~1:2~

THE SECOND EPISTLE OF JOHN:
''Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.''  ~3~

THE REVELATION OF SAINT JOHN THE DIVINE:
''John to the seven churches which are in Asia: 'GRACE BE UNTO YOU, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne...' " ~1:4 (emphasis mine)~

A PATTERN EMERGES

From Romans to Revelation, we see a clear pattern appearing in the introductory lines of the Epistles. Grace unto you. This greeting of grace is repeated over and over, and not only by Paul. In each instance, grace is the first word selected. Think about the assortment of spiritual words which could have been called upon to begin the greetings. We see peace, mercy and love thrown into the mix, but grace is always placed first.

We can see the supreme value and importance of grace from the aforementioned fact. Grace comes first because it makes all the other blessings of God possible. Grace opens the doors of Heaven from which flow peace, mercy and love. Without grace, those heavenly doors would remain shut as surely as no man could open the doors of Noah's ark once God closed them.

HOW TO BECOME GRACE-CONSCIOUS

What if we adopted ''the grace greeting'' for our present-day interactions with one another? Every time we meet one another, or call, or text, or e-mail, or communicate on social media - imagine the positive effect if we say, ''Grace unto you! Grace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!''. By doing this we would begin to condition our minds to think in terms of grace. We would develop a grace-consciousness. We would make the grace of God an ever-present thought.

We can take this idea a step further. If we really want to be ''doers of the Word," then we will incorporate grace into not only our greetings, but into our goodbyes or parting words as well.

THE CONCLUDING VERSES OF ROMANS:
''...the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen...The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.''

THE NEXT TO THE LAST VERSE OF 1 CORINTHIANS:
''The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.''

THE LAST VERSE OF 2 CORINTHIANS:
''The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.''

THE LAST VERSE OF GALATIANS:
''Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.''

THE LAST VERSE OF EPHESIANS:
''Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.''

THE LAST VERSE OF PHILIPPIANS:
''The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.''

THE LAST VERSE OF COLOSSIANS:
''The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. GRACE BE WITH YOU. Amen.''  (emphasis mine)

THE LAST VERSE OF 1 THESSALONIANS:
''The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.''

THE LAST VERSE OF 2 THESSALONIANS:
''The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.''

THE LAST VERSE OF 1 TIMOTHY:
''...Grace be with thee. Amen.''

THE LAST VERSE OF 2 TIMOTHY:
''The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.''

THE LAST VERSE OF TITUS:
''All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. GRACE BE WITH YOU ALL. Amen.'' (emphasis mine)

THE LAST VERSE OF PHILEMON:
''The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.''

THE LAST VERSE OF HEBREWS:
''Grace be with you all. Amen.''

THE CONCLUDING VERSES OF 1 PETER:
''...THE GOD OF ALL GRACE, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you...By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that THIS IS THE TRUE GRACE OF GOD wherein ye stand.'' (emphasis mine)

THE LAST VERSE OF 2 PETER:
''...GROW IN GRACE, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.'' (emphasis mine)

THE LAST VERSE OF REVELATION (AND THUS THE BIBLE)
''The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.''

SAYING GRACE

Grace, grace, grace! The blessing of grace appears at the beginning and ending of the Epistles with few exceptions. What if we applied this truth to our everyday lives, including our speech? What if the grace of God permeated our conversations and communication? What if we walked away from every interaction with grace on our minds and hearts?

We can minister grace with our words. The power of grace can flow through human speech. This gives new meaning to the phrase ''saying grace''!

Ephesians 4:29
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

What exactly is ''corrupt communication''? There are various forms of communication, some of which do not require the use of words or speech. Body language is a form of communication. Facial expressions can communicate very clear messages, as can hand gestures. But the scripture quoted above is referring to verbal communication - the words we speak - because it exhorts us to not let a certain form of communication proceed out of our mouths. The words we speak matter.

It's uncommon to label speech as ''corrupt'' in our modern vernacular. Instead, we refer to ''bad words,'' ''negative talk'' and ''obscene language.'' (Colossians 3:8 tells us to ''put off'' filthy language.) We tend to think of corruption in terms of shady dealings by those in positions of authority. Type in "corrupt" on Google News and you will get back one article after another concerning corrupt governments or corrupt leaders.

Word Study: The Greek word translated as ''corrupt'' in the King James Version of Ephesians 4:29 means ''rotten'' in the sense of being worthless. The root word from which it sprouts means ''to putrefy.'' If something has rotted and putrefied, it will emit a most objectionable odor. Do our words stink?

Most other translations use the word ''unwholesome'' rather than corrupt. Let no unwholesome communication proceed out of your mouth. Just think: this admonition was given thousands of years before the invention of social media. As Christians who are committed to living according to biblical principles, can we honestly say that our tweets are wholesome? How about our posts on Facebook and other social media platforms? In this case, we have to guard against letting unwholesome communication proceed from our fingertips as we type. The Bible is relevant in our day, right where we live.

Since unwholesome communication is a no-no, what sort of words should be proceeding out of our mouths? The criterion is clear and simple: if it is ''good to the use of edifying,'' we should speak it. If it edifies those within earshot, it passes God's test. (Of course this same principle would apply to the words we type, since nowadays verbal communication to a large degree has been supplanted by texting and social media.) To edify is to build up. Words can build up or tear down. Words can bless or curse (James 3:10). It is incumbent upon us to do the former with the communication that proceeds out of our mouths.

When we use our words to bless and to build up, something wonderful happens as a result. The edifying communication actually ''ministers grace unto the hearers.'' Think about this: grace can flow through human speech. We can minister grace to others by the right selection of words. We know that words are the carriers of ideas, and they can also carry the grace of God. We can literally ''say grace'' by speaking grace-filled words!

Colossians 4:6 (New International Version)
6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

How often should we incorporate grace into our conversations? ''Let your conversation be ALWAYS full of grace...'' (emphasis mine) It's not enough to speak grace-saturated words in church. That's easy. It won't do much good if you speak grace one moment, then turn around and revert to unwholesome, negative talk the next moment. If your speech is not seasoned with grace, it will be ''rotten'' with corrupt communication.

''...so that you may know how to answer everyone.'' The world is looking for answers. The grace of God is the answer. When they hear grace proceeding from your mouth, it will minister to them. You will be an effective witness for Christ when your words minister grace unto the hearers.
